Darrin’s One Compelling Idea:

“Once we understand the gospel we will get rid of our idols.”

Supportive content:

We are ruled by what we worship.
We gave up ruling over the world when we chose to worship the creation instead of the Creator.
Worship is the response of being captivated.
We worship what captivates us.
Idolatry is the root of all sin.
An idol is anything in creation that I worship other than God.
Idols are what we put our hope and meaning in.
Idols are the alternative to worshiping God.
The reason for any sin is idolatry.
We know our idols when they are threatened or disturbed.
What motivates behavior? This is where our idols hide.
How you do deal with your idol?

This is great! i guess i would add that a deep understanding and embrace of God’s grace (the message of the gospel) is our only mean by which we can follow the 1st commandment and as Augustie/luther/calvin/etc/tim keller/da Carson/etc/ say sin always involves that 1st commdnament in some way.
